WHAT WE HAVE LOST ... AND THE ROAD TO RESTORATION: A CRITICAL LOOK AT THE CHANGES IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH Copyright 1999, VHS videocassette, running time 48 minutes 8 seconds In the Spirit of Chartres" Committee, P.O. Sox 17984, Fountain Hills, AZ 85269, (480) 471-9009 $25 (plus $2.50 S&H) per copy, $100 (no S/H) for 5 copies It is my pleasure to recommend highly this new video, whose stated purpose is not to "sing to the choir," but to "awaken the sleeping giant, that body of Catholics who have either left the Church because they couldh't stand it any more, or those who are still in the modern Church, but are miserably disillusioned and in pain." This video is their "wake-up" call! The video is beautifully produced, with historical footage of the Traditional Latin Mass and papal ceremonies, as contrasted with the inanity of the New Order worship service and other rites. The contrast will truly be shocking to those who have gradually slipped into the Novus Ordo Worship Service without realizing its unCatholicity. Professionally narrated, at a proper pace and synchronized with visual proof, the video uses unobtrusive background music drawn not only from Gregorian chant and traditional hymns but also from classical masters such as Albinoni, Mozart, and Grieg. In a little less than a standard class period, the whole spectrum of the problems with the Novus Ordo is treated from several perspectives: the Mass, sacred music, and the Sacraments. The detailed section analyzing the traditional Sacraments as contrasted with the New Order ones is a particularly fine summary of the issues of form and matter -- that is, validity -- surrounding the new sacraments. In addition to the video's potential use to win over those disaffected Novus Ordo Catholics to the true Mass and Sacraments of the traditional Roman (Latin) Rite, it strikes me that because of its professional quality, this would be an excellent video to show on local cable television community channels. There would then be about ten minutes left over to point out local traditional activities and chapels. This is a quality product, from the contents to the glossy case giving a summary of the argument for the road to restoration of the True Faith. I can't commend the Committee enough for undertaking this task and for bringing it off in a style of which traditional Catholics can be proud.
